We’ve been wanting to share this moment with you since last fall.
We’ve shared a few photos from the day over the past few months, but we’re finally sharing a condensed video from an epic day of fighting last October.
First of all, I’d like to emphasize just how special these days are.
It’s true that in October, it’s relatively easy to photograph a pair of bulls sparring as part of the post-rut activity, but this day was epic.
Their “match” literally lasted for hours.
They moved more than a quarter of a mile during this near-constant battle.
For a couple of moose freaks like us, it was a real pleasure to film.
The next thing to mention concerns the outgoing “dynasty”.
It was bound to happen eventually, it’s nature’s natural course, and with moose, the life cycle is relatively short but incredible at the same time.
A 12-year-old moose has led an extraordinary life.
Anything beyond that is unusual and all the more astonishing.
The male called 22 is one such animal.
He’s a superb bull.
That’s another story!
Back to today’s video.
These two bulls are young, amazing and on the rise.
We’ve been watching them grow for years, and last year it was crazy to see how big they were during last autumn’s rut.
We hope to see them both again in a few months.
Thanks for watching our channel, we’re the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), wildlife photographers from New Hampshire (and part-time Alaska.) It’s our passion to document wildlife in all its forms, but moose are definitely at the top.
In New Hampshire, we spend much of our spring and summer hours kayaking and photographing loons and moose in New Hampshire waters.
In the fall, we travel many miles to Alaska in search of all kinds of wildlife.

Giant Elk Wants to be King: A Story of Dreams and Ambitions
In the vast, green forests of North America, a young giant moose named Émile dreams.
Émile is no ordinary elephant.
Despite his impressive size and incredible strength, his greatest dream is to become king of the forest.
But how can a moose, however majestic, aspire to such a title in a kingdom where the rules are often dictated by more feared creatures, such as wolves or bears?
A bold dream
Ever since he was a child, Émile has been fascinated by the stories told by his grandfather, an ancient king of the forests.
The latter spoke fondly of the glory days when harmony reigned between all the creatures living under his reign.
Inspired by these stories, Émile decided he would be the next to wear the crown.
So he embarked on a quest to prove his worth.
A challenge to meet
Aware that his dream would not be easy to achieve, Émile began to observe his fellow human beings and the other inhabitants of the forest.
He realized that, to earn respect, he needed to demonstrate his ability to resolve conflicts and protect the weak.
His first mission was to settle a quarrel between a group of foxes and a pack of rabbits over the sharing of berries.
Using his imposing stature and intelligence, Émile managed to reach an agreement.
The foxes and rabbits agreed to help each other, each benefiting from the other’s resources without either feeling short-changed.
This first step earned him a certain notoriety among forest creatures.
Support from friends
Along the way, Émile made many enriching encounters.
He befriended a wise owl named Sophie and a brave deer named Lucas.
Together, they formed a close-knit team, ready to face any challenge.
Sophie brought her wisdom and knowledge of forest customs, while Lucas used his speed and agility to escort Emile through perilous areas.
The trio undertook other missions, such as helping a squirrel find its nest or saving a stream polluted by abandoned garbage.
As they performed their acts of bravery and kindness, Émile’s legend grew.
The final test
As Émile drew closer to his dream, he was faced with a major challenge.
A new predator, a large brown bear, had settled in the forest, spreading terror among the inhabitants.
To prove he was worthy of becoming king, Émile now had to confront this bear and restore peace.
Gathering all his courage and drawing on the lessons he had learned, Émile approached the bear not with the intention of fighting, but with the desire for dialogue.
To his surprise, the bear revealed that he had not come to do harm, but was simply looking for a place to live in peace.
Émile and his friends agreed to a new arrangement whereby the bear could coexist with the other creatures.
Accession to the throne
Strengthened by this victory and his dedication to peace, Émile was finally recognized as King of the Forest.
But more than a title, he became a symbol of harmony and collaboration.
Émile had understood that to reign did not mean to dominate, but rather to unite and serve.
His reign marked an era of prosperity, when all creatures great and small lived in union.
Stories of his exploits were passed down from generation to generation, proving that even a young giant moose, with a big heart and loyal friends, could realize big dreams and change the world.
Conclusion
The story of Émile, the young giant moose who wanted to become king, reminds us of the importance of compassion, camaraderie and determination.
Regardless of our size or origin, each of us can leave a significant mark on the world around us.
It’s a call to dream big, act with heart and never give up on our most cherished aspirations.
