This year, he’s looking very impressive and making the most of the rut.
In this video, he digs a rutting pit and brings in some scary cows.
He has trouble keeping them together, but watch this hysterical maneuver of the cow climbing over him to get into his pit.
Twice.
When he rakes, he comes up with a big sprig of spruce in his antlers and shows it off with pride.
After the antics of the rutting pit, another more dominant bull (22) enters the arena.
It’s fight time.
(The video ends where the 22/Left Hook video begins. Check it out!)
Enjoy the show!
Thanks for watching our channel, we’re the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), wildlife photographers from New Hampshire (and part-time Alaska.) It’s our passion to document wildlife in all its forms, but moose are definitely at the top.
In New Hampshire, we spend much of our spring and summer hours kayaking and photographing loons and moose in New Hampshire waters.
In autumn, we travel many miles in Alaska in search of all kinds of wildlife.

Giant Moose Rut Festival: A Celebration of Nature and Wildlife
Every autumn, a unique and fascinating celebration attracts nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts to the forests of Quebec: the Giant Moose Rut Festival.
This event highlights one of the most captivating moments in the lives of moose, when males compete for the attention of females, a spectacle that offers extraordinary insight into the natural behaviors of this majestic species.
A Natural Event
The Giant Moose Rutting Festival coincides with the moose rutting season, which generally takes place between September and October.
During this period, the males, known as “moose”, become particularly active and are often seen fighting to establish dominance.
They emit powerful calls, known as “bellowing”, which echo through the forests, attracting both females and onlookers.
It’s a time of spectacular displays of strength and bravery.
Activities and Attractions
The event features a multitude of activities designed to raise public awareness of wildlife conservation and the importance of ecosystems.
Experienced naturalist guides lead excursions into the forests, allowing visitors to observe moose in their natural habitat while learning more about their behavior, their diet, and their vital role in the ecosystem.
Educational workshops are also organized, covering topics such as moose biology, habitat management and conservation efforts.
Lectures are given by experts who share their passion and knowledge of these impressive mammals.
Conservation awareness
The Giant Elk Rut Festival is not just a celebration of wildlife, it’s also a way of raising public awareness of the need to protect these iconic animals and their habitat.
With the challenges of climate change, deforestation and urbanization, it’s crucial to promote conservation action.
The event encourages participants to become wildlife ambassadors and get involved in conservation initiatives.
A Family Celebration
Although the highlight of the festival is moose watching, the event is designed to be an enjoyable family experience.
Children’s activities, exhibitions of local crafts, tastings of regional products and folk music performances add a festive dimension to the event.
This allows families to come together, celebrate nature, and share memorable moments together.
Conclusion
The Fête du Rut de l’Élan Géant is much more than a simple event: it’s an opportunity to connect with nature, learn about Quebec’s extraordinary wildlife, and become aware of the importance of preserving our environment.
For nature lovers, this festival is a must, an invitation to share the beauty of wildlife and protect this natural treasure for future generations.
Don’t wait any longer, come and enjoy this unforgettable experience in the heart of nature!
