They’re all in velvet and enjoying themselves, eating and hanging out together like the buddies they are.
That’s how it is until the rut changes things.
Within a few weeks, the males’ hormones will do several things: firstly, their antlers will be fully developed, the velvet will no longer be necessary and it will fall off or be raked off, exposing a gleaming head.
The bulls start to move away from each other and gradually stop eating as the cows enter the area.
Then it’s the start of the rut, a subject we cover in most of our other videos here.
It’s a soothing glimpse into the kindness and gentleness these enormous beasts can, and usually do, have.
