Welcome to Saturday morning cinema!
Here’s a fun video of a memorable day at the 2022 moose rut.
First, let’s talk about the bull.
What bull are we talking about?
His name is Turkey, and he was named in 2020 because of the little wattle hanging from his bell.
He’s still around two years later – look for him in the clip.
Turkey’s growth has exploded in the last 12 months.
By 2020, he was three or four years old, probably four.
By then he had pretty decent brow teeth, 3×3 with nice triples on each side, but he was small for sure.
But when he appeared this year, he had five teeth on one brow and three on the other, and he was much bigger.
He’s going to be a VERY big bull, I can’t wait to try and find him next fall.
The rutting pit action was wonderful.
There was only one cow (quite different from previous years), but as we’ve explained throughout the season, everything was different and much of the rutting action took place elsewhere.
But on this day, in this pit… it was exciting.
The cow was trying to find a balance between caring for her calf and claiming the pit.

The Amazing Action of Big Moose Molt: Even a Bison Fawn Adds Madness!

Every year, as autumn approaches, the forests of Canada and the USA become the scene of a spectacular natural event: the moose rut.
It’s a time when male moose compete for females.
This year, however, an unexpected player joined the fray: a bison fawn.
This unexpected addition captivated wildlife observers and added a touch of madness to an already fascinating event.

The moose rut is an intense period marked by competitive behavior.
The big bulls make their presence heard with powerful bellowing and compete by fighting with their majestic horns.
These confrontations may seem violent, but they are in fact a demonstration of strength and health, enabling the hardiest moose to secure dominance over the females.

Large moose are impressive to watch.
Their imposing size, distinctive horns and majestic behavior create an incredible spectacle for anyone lucky enough to witness this period.

The intrusion of the Bison Fawn

However, this year was different.
While the moose were already in action, a bison fawn joined the scene.
This young animal, with its brown coat and big, inquisitive eyes, seemed a little lost at first.
But he soon began to interact with the moose, adding a dose of levity and surprise to the already electric atmosphere of the rut.

Les Élan’s reactions

The moose, initially surprised by the fawn’s presence, quickly reacted in different ways.
